Diastasis Recti in Malaysia: Closing the Gap After Birth

Woman receiving herbal compress abdominal massage for postnatal diastasis recti recovery

Months after giving birth, does your belly still feel soft, domed, or "split down the middle"? That gap has a name — diastasis recti — and it's incredibly common.

What is diastasis recti?

Diastasis recti is when the two sides of your tummy muscles separate during pregnancy to make room for baby. For many mums the gap narrows on its own, but for some it lingers — leaving a rounded belly, a weak core, or lower-back aches.

How do I check for it?

Lie on your back, knees bent, and press your fingers just above your belly button as you lift your head slightly. If you feel a gap of two or more fingers, you likely have some separation. It's worth getting it assessed properly too.

How treatment helps

Recovery works best with gentle, consistent support rather than forcing it. Our Rectus Abdominis Closure Treatment combines targeted massage, herbal heat, and infrared therapy to encourage the abdominal muscles to draw back together and support your core. Many mums pair it with our Pelvic Repair Treatment, since the core and pelvic floor work as a team.

One important note

Avoid crunches and sit-ups while the gap is wide — they can make it worse. And if you have a large separation or a hernia, please see a doctor or physiotherapist alongside any wellness treatment.

FAQ

Can diastasis recti heal on its own?

Mild cases often improve in the first few months. If a gap remains after that, gentle treatment and the right movement can help.

How long does recovery take?

It varies — many mums see gradual change over several weeks of consistent care. Every body is different.

Where can I get diastasis recti treatment in KL?
